Introducing the first in a series of "Gear Corner" posts. I'll be highlighting some of my favorite paddling gear, boards, paddles, and apparel!
Above all, SUP is a paddle sport. For beginners and experts alike it's crucial to invest in a quality paddle. This season my race paddle of choice is the 'Carbon Race' model from Boardworks. It weighs in at just 1lb. The shaft is strong and offers a perfect blend of stiffness and flexibility for good response in all phases of the paddle stroke.
The widest point of the blade is near the bottom and tapers quickly to the neck. This allows the paddler to keep the blade close to the rails of the board, which aides in keeping a straight track, and creates more turbulence underneath the planing surface of the board for additional glide!
Across all of Boardworks products are unique and genuine graphics that give each board and paddle it's own personality. In this case it's a sampling of the table of elements.
My race paddle is cut to 79" right now, down 2" from last year. I noticed less strain on my body with the decreased length. If anyone would like to try out this paddle please let me know after a race or during an event and I am happy to let you take it for a spin!
